Cumming provided conceptual cost estimating services for the construction of the new 68,500-sq.-ft. Institute of Regenerative Medicine (Stem Cell Research) at the UCSF Medical Center. The Parnassus Campus houses laboratory facilities, office and administration areas, an auditorium, and an exterior bridge walkway connecting the new facility to the existing hospital. This challenging project, constructed on a 60-degree slope, features a steel-framed structure with a series of four split-level floors or pods with terraced grass roofs. The facility also includes a state-of-the art seismic isolation system that protects the building and its contents during a major earthquake.
