Chief Executive Officer

Chief Operating Officer
Mike has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry. He is responsible for managing the daily operations for Cumming’s project and cost management groups, including its portfolio of more than 400 education, hospitality, healthcare and other public and private sector projects nationwide. A professional estimator by trade, Mike has a thorough knowledge of all cost management concepts and practices. In addition to estimating, Mike is well-versed in all areas of construction management and consulting, including master planning, project controls, contract management and expert witness testimony.
Alastair Burns, President of Cumming’s international project and cost management operation, possesses 35 years of industry experience, 30 of which have been spent in the Middle East. His areas of specialization include business planning, project identification and funding coordination, government-level negotiations, profit and cash flow management and reporting, and operations management.Prior to joining Cumming, Alastair served as Chief Operating Officer for RAK Properties, a highly successful owner/developer. Before that, he was a Principal with Khatib & Alami. He has managed more than $30 billion worth of development in a variety of sectors, has overseen multi-disciplinary teams of hundreds of professionals, and has consistently achieved outstanding results. Alastair’s vast international experience includes work in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, South Asia, the Far East and Central America.
Executive Vice President
Derek is an experienced chartered surveyor and construction executive with overall responsibility for Cumming’s Project Management operations in the Eastern U.S. and hospitality sector worldwide. Throughout his 20-plus years in the industry, Derek has participated in the development of nearly 150 projects, the majority of which have involved major hotel, resort, timeshare, and multi-family properties. Derek has a proven track record as an owner’s representative, development and project manager, and in a variety of consulting roles supporting clients around the world.
Executive Vice President
David serves as Executive Vice President in charge of Cumming’s cost management services nationwide. Initially joining the company as a senior cost manager in 2004, he quickly demonstrated his ability to lead and provide outstanding cost services on diverse and increasingly complex building types.
David has been in the construction industry since 1995. He holds a master’s degree in landscape architecture from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland, and is a member of the American Society of Professional Estimators, the U.S. Green Building Council, and the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering.
Chief Financial Officer
Brian is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) with 30 years of finance experience. His diverse background includes roles with a broad range of organizations from consumer products to manufacturing to construction. Brian holds a BS degree in Business Administration/Accounting from Biola University and an MBA from California State University, Long Beach, and is an active member of the Association for Corporate Growth, Financial Executives International, Institute of Management Accountants, and the Institute of Certified Management Accountants. At Cumming, Brian serves as Chief Financial Officer with primary responsibility for all finance, accounting, treasury, contracting, IT and HR activities within the organization.
A Managing Principal and member of Cumming’s Executive Team, Bill Rodgers has been with Cumming from the beginning. Bill possesses more than twenty years of estimating experience, and as a result has broad knowledge of construction costs worldwide. In order to provide our clients with accurate forecasts, Bill continuously monitors national and international economic trends, and publishes Cumming’s monthly Economic Report and price book. Bill is a member of the American Society of Professional Estimators, the Society of American Value Engineers and an Associate Member of the American Institute of Architects. He also holds a Certified Cost Consultant certificate issued by the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering, and is a LEED-Accredited Professional.
Steve is a member of Cumming’s executive leadership team as well as the firm’s Healthcare Sector Leader. He possesses 24 years of broad-based experience providing project management, construction management and cost management services on thousands of projects totaling several billion dollars in construction value. This work includes new construction, as well as renovation and seismic upgrade projects with budgets ranging from $1 million to several billion. Steve has worked around the world on a broad range of high-profile and challenging projects.
David is a 25-year construction industry veteran. He has served in management roles throughout his career and in senior leadership positions over the last decade. David has extensive experience as a general contractor, owner-builder, and owner’s representative, and today applies his field-based knowledge to supporting our clients in the resolution and avoidance of construction disputes. He represents owners, designers, and contractors.David is primarily responsible for Cumming’s dispute resolution and consulting services company-wide. David also serves on Cumming’s Advisory Board, which oversees both the day-to-day operations and the strategic direction for the company in each of its primary service lines. David’s key concerns are operations, business development, and client and team member satisfaction. Before joining Cumming, David served as Vice President of A.W. Hutchison & Associates, LLC (since acquired by Navigant), where he provided a number of consulting services.
As the leader of our Program Management Education Sector in the Southwest, Lisa Sachs, former President of Construction Controls Group, Inc. (CCG), a Cumming acquisition in 2008, offers more than 25 years of experience in California schools and higher education capital improvement programs. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Lisa is a registered architect and a certified construction manager.
Lisa is routinely recognized for superior management by industry organizations such as the Construction Management Association of America and the Western Council of Construction Consumers. She has been a Board Director of the Construction Management Association of America Southern California Chapter since 2005. She has been working on educational programs since 1989, and as Principal-in-Charge she is currently responsible for the management of more than $2 billion in school construction for two of the largest educational bond programs in the nation.
Bill Wiseman has more than 28 years of professional experience in program and construction management ranging from small addition and renovation projects to large, complex building programs. Bill, as a senior principal, has overseen more than $6 billion worth of building programs and projects throughout the country. Prior to Cumming (formerly Southern Management Group), Bill served as Director of Construction for a national retail company. As a Managing Principal with Cumming, Bill’s responsibilities include overall guidance, direction and leadership for Cumming’s Southeast program and project management team.
In 1974, Brian began his career in business development with one of the largest architectural and construction management firms in South Carolina. He represented them for 14 years until leaving to form Southern Management Group in 1989. At Southern Management Group, Brian was involved in all aspects of finance and business development, which included over $4 billion in building programs through South Carolina. Since merging with Cumming in 2008, Brian has continued to assist in all areas of management and business development.
Tom Baldwin, a Managing Principal with Cumming, has more than 36 years of professional experience in program and construction management ranging from small addition and renovation projects to large, complex programs. While he has overseen the implementation of numerous building programs, he also has been involved in the analysis of school facilities and the need for improvements of those facilities. Tom is one of Southern Management Group’s founders and routinely serves as a Director/Principal-In-Charge for select building programs in South Carolina.

Jeff Holstein, with over 20 years of professional program and project management experience, serves as head of operations for Cumming’s Southeast program and project management team. Prior to merging with Cumming, Jeff served as President of Southern Management Group. His background includes work on more than $2 billion in completed work throughout the Southeast, primarily in the areas of K-12 and higher education.
